Midsummer in Midsomer 2018 - Our 11th weekend! 22 - 24 June plus extension day 25 June 2018

Our chosen charity for 2018 - which will receive all profits made over the weekend - was WaterAid, and as named by our star guest, Jane Wymark aka Joyce Barnaby!

MAIN WEEKEND – 22 to 24 JUNE 2018

FRIDAY - We started with a two course “Meet & Greet Lunch” at the Peacock, where we refreshed friendships from previous years.

In the afternoon, we headed to Shirburn Church, which appeared in “A Sacred Trust". On the return leg to The Peacock, we stopped in Sydenham to look at the MM locations there - the pub was unfortunately closed for a private function.

We then returned to The Peacock for our customary Midsomer Quiz Evening with a BBQ buffet in between rounds. Some questions where trickier than others.

SATURDAY - After breakfast, we went to Watlington, which has supplied several locations for MM, for our customary Village Trail Quiz. This year, it contained some tweaks... how good is your eye for detail??

Lunch was enjoyed at the Turville Heath Barn – a location from “Destroying Angel”, and followed by a very knowledgeable tour by Robin around the nearby MM locations.

In the afternoon, we ventured into the depths of “The Hell Fire Caves” in West Wycombe, a location from "Talking to the Dead".

Afterwards, we went back to The Peacock, in order to change and refresh.

For dinner, we took a minibus to “The Swan Hotel” in Thame for a three course dinner – which appeared in “Vixen’s Run”. We proudly welcomed a very special guest – !! Jane Wymark !!

SUNDAY - In the morning we headed to Hemel Hempstead for a look around.

For lunch we went to the “The Windmill” in Chipperfield, yet another location pub.

For the afternoon, we visited Tythrop Park for its one-day-a-year garden open day and peeked into the stables, which may look familiar to MM fans... please note that this is otherwise an absolutely private property, which cannot be visited.

In the evening we had our customary two-course “Farewell Dinner” at the Peacock to round off the main weekend.

Morning – drive into London by minibus & visit The British Museum.

Lunch – we dined at “The Sherlock Holmes Pub” in Northumberland Avenue. They have a reconstruction of Sherlock Holmes’s study upstairs!

Afternoon – After lunch we caught a river taxi, which offers a different perspective on the city, and visited the City of London Police Museum in the Guildhall complex.

Evening – we were having a rare treat here on offer - a private tour of Mill Hill Observatory, which was a location in “Written in the Stars”.

On return to The Peacock, we enjoyed a cold buffet to round the weekend off.

All in all, a very enjoyable weekend that felt too short, as they always do!

The weekend raised £800 for Jane's chosen charity WaterAid.
